Government proposes review of employment tribunals

With the number of tribunal cases growing in England, the coalition is consulting on measures to reduce the number of employment cases which end up in court.

Proposals include:

  • requiring that all cases are lodged with Acas first to allow pre-claim conciliation before arriving at tribunal
  • introducing a system of fees for tribunals
  • increasing the qualifying period for unfair dismissal from one year to two years.

The consultation is open until 20 April.

For further information and to respond to the proposals, see the BIS website.
