Government confirms Vetting and Barring Scheme will cover under eighteen years olds

The remodelled Vetting and Barring Scheme will still require checks on staff working with 16 and 17 year olds.

The Freedom Bill, due to pass through parliament shortly, will set out the parameters of the new Vetting and Barring Scheme.

It was debated whether checks were needed on staff and volunteers working with 16 and 17 year olds. However fresh amendments to the bill mean that children in this age bracket will still be covered by the scheme.
