Flexible working changes postponed to 30 June 2014

The extension of the right to request flexible working for all employees with at least 26 weeks' service was originally scheduled for 6 April 2014. It is now due to take effect by 30 June 2014.

Currently only employees with children under the age of 17, or children with a disability under the age of 18, and carers have the right to make a flexible working request.

Instead of the current statutory procedure, employers will be required to handle flexible working requests in a reasonable manner in line with a new Acas code.

Acas guidance on the changes is available here.

Employers will need to ensure that current policies around flexible working reflect the most recent Acas guidance.
