Equality Act 2010: positive action from April 2011

The government has announced as part of its Equality Strategy that in April 2011, it will enact those parts of the Equality Act 2010 that permit positive action.

Positive action allows an employer, in specific circumstances, to recruit or promote a person with one protected characteristic in preference to another who does not have the protected characteristic, providing that both candidates are equally qualified for the post.
