Disclosure and Barring Service launches from December 2012

From 3 December 2012, the Criminal Records Bureau and Independent Safeguarding Authority merge to form the Disclosure and Barring Service.

The merger has resulted in some key changes in terminology and branding. As such, CRB checks are now known as DBS checks. However the checking process itself remains largely the same.

Note that from 1 February 2013, DBS checks made on the old-style CRB application forms will not be valid. However CRB checks undertaken under the previous system will remain valid.

For further information on the Disclosure and Barring Service, see the safeguarding section of HRBird.
